چکیده

A mixed dominating set for a graph G = (V,E) is a set S ⊆ V ∪ E such that every element x ∈ (V ∪E)\S is either adjacent or incident to an element of S. The mixed domination number of a graphG, denoted by γm(G), is the minimum cardinality of mixed dominating sets ofG and any mixed dominating set with cardinality of γm(G) is called a minimum mixed dominating set. The mixed domination problem is to find a minimum mixed dominating set for graphG and is known to be an NPcomplete problem. In this paper, we present a novel approach to solve the mixed domination problem. Our new technique of assigning power to edges and vertices, and charging vertices for edges combined with with dynamic programming leads to a fixed-parameter algorithm of time O(3tw 2 × tw2 × |V |), which proves our next result, which is the mixed domination problem is fixed-parameter tractable with respect to tree-width.

Fixed-Parameter Tractability Results for Full-Degree Spanning Tree and Its Dual

We provide first-time fixed-parameter tractability results for the NPhard problems Maximum Full-Degree Spanning Tree and MinimumVertex Feedback Edge Set. These problems are dual to each other: In Maximum Full-Degree Spanning Tree, the task is to find a spanning tree for a given graph that maximizes the number of vertices that preserve their degree. For Minimum-Vertex Feedback Edge Set, the task...

Combinatorial properties of a general domination problem with parity constraints

We consider various properties of a general parity domination problem: given a graph G, one is looking for a subset S of the vertex set such that the open/closed neighborhood of each vertex contains an even/odd number of vertices in S (it is prescribed individually for each vertex which of these applies). We define the parameter s(G) to be the number of solvable instances out of 4 possibilities...

A Width Parameter Useful for Chordal and Co-comparability Graphs

In 2013 Belmonte and Vatshelle used mim-width, a graph parameter bounded on interval graphs and permutation graphs that strictly generalizes clique-width, to explain existing algorithms for many domination-type problems, also known as (σ, ρ)problems or LC-VSVP problems, on many special graph classes. In this paper, we focus on chordal graphs and co-comparability graphs, that strictly contain in...

Complexity and approximation ratio of semitotal domination in graphs

A set $S subseteq V(G)$ is a semitotal dominating set of a graph $G$ if it is a dominating set of $G$ andevery vertex in $S$ is within distance 2 of another vertex of $S$. Thesemitotal domination number $gamma_{t2}(G)$ is the minimumcardinality of a semitotal dominating set of $G$.We show that the semitotal domination problem isAPX-complete for bounded-degree graphs, and the semitotal dominatio...

Clique-width and tree-width of sparse graphs

Tree-width and clique-width are two important graph complexity measures that serve as parameters in many fixed-parameter tractable (FPT) algorithms. The same classes of sparse graphs, in particular of planar graphs and of graphs of bounded degree have bounded tree-width and bounded clique-width. We prove that, for sparse graphs, clique-width is polynomially bounded in terms of tree-width. For p...
